WHERE’S THE FUNCTION
COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Operated by Wheres The Function Holdings (Pty) Ltd
Effective Date: Upon publication
Last Updated: 20 October 2026
1. PURPOSE OF THESE GUIDELINES
Where’s the Function is designed to help people discover and participate in nightlife, entertainment, Events and experiences.
Nightlife should be exciting, social and expressive. It should not require Users, artists, Event Organisers, Venues or other members of the community to tolerate fraud, harassment, exploitation, dangerous conduct or unlawful activity.
These Community Guidelines (“Guidelines”) explain what is and is not permitted when using the Where’s the Function Platform.
They apply to:
- Users;
- Account holders;
- Event Organisers;
- Venues;
- Business Users;
- promoters;
- advertisers;
- people submitting Content; and
- anyone using interactive Platform functionality.
These Guidelines form part of the Where’s the Function Terms of Use.
Business Users must also comply with the Event Organiser & Venue Terms where applicable.
2. SCOPE
These Guidelines apply to conduct and Content connected with the Platform, including:
- profiles;
- usernames;
- profile photographs;
- Event listings;
- Event descriptions;
- photographs;
- videos;
- comments;
- reviews, if available;
- messages, if available;
- promotional Content;
- advertisements;
- uploaded Content;
- Ticket-related activity;
- Business Accounts;
- reports submitted to WTF; and
- other Platform interactions.
Some interactive functionality may become available in later Platform releases.
Rules concerning a feature apply when that feature is made available.
3. GENERAL STANDARD
Users should use Where’s the Function lawfully and in a manner that respects the rights, safety and legitimate interests of others.
You must not use the Platform to:
- commit or facilitate unlawful conduct;
- deceive or defraud another person;
- threaten or seriously harass another person;
- impersonate another person or business;
- materially misrepresent an Event;
- infringe intellectual-property rights;
- compromise Platform security;
- unlawfully process another person's personal information; or
- deliberately expose others to serious and reasonably foreseeable harm.
Context matters when these Guidelines are applied.
WTF may consider:
- the nature of the Content;
- apparent purpose;
- surrounding context;
- severity;
- repetition;
- likelihood of harm;
- credibility of a report;
- applicable law; and
- the User's previous Platform conduct.
4. NIGHTLIFE CONTENT IS GENERALLY PERMITTED
Where’s the Function is a nightlife Platform.
Content will not be prohibited merely because it depicts or discusses lawful nightlife activities.
Subject to these Guidelines and applicable law, Content may include:
- parties;
- clubs;
- festivals;
- DJs;
- artists;
- dancing;
- nightlife fashion;
- alcoholic beverages;
- nightlife venues;
- Event promotions;
- entertainment;
- celebrations; and
- other lawful nightlife activity.
The fact that Content involves nightlife, alcohol or adult social environments does not by itself make the Content inappropriate for the Platform.
However, additional restrictions apply where Content promotes unlawful, dangerous, exploitative or prohibited activity.
5. AGE-RESTRICTED EVENTS
The standard Where’s the Function consumer Platform is intended for Users aged 18 or older.
Some Events or Venues may impose additional or higher age restrictions.
Users must not:
- falsify their age;
- encourage another person to falsify their age;
- manipulate age-verification processes;
- provide another person's identification to bypass a restriction; or
- falsely advertise an age-restricted Event as available to persons who cannot lawfully attend.
Event Organisers and Venues remain responsible for lawful admission and identification procedures within their control.
6. ALCOHOL-RELATED CONTENT
Where lawful, Event listings and Content may depict, discuss or promote alcoholic beverages in connection with nightlife.
However, Users and Business Users must not use the Platform to:
- facilitate unlawful alcohol sales;
- advertise unlawful alcohol supply;
- encourage alcohol consumption by persons below the lawful drinking age;
- falsely claim that an Event or Venue holds required liquor permissions;
- promote conduct that clearly encourages dangerous alcohol consumption; or
- use the Platform to circumvent applicable liquor restrictions.
The presence of an Event on Where’s the Function does not constitute confirmation by WTF that a particular person or Venue holds every licence or authorisation required by law.
7. ILLEGAL DRUGS AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES
The Platform must not be used to:
- sell illegal drugs;
- arrange illegal drug transactions;
- solicit buyers or sellers of illegal drugs;
- distribute controlled substances unlawfully;
- provide Platform functionality for unlawful drug transactions; or
- materially facilitate other unlawful drug-related commercial activity.
Incidental depiction or discussion of substance use will be assessed in context and is not automatically treated as an offer to buy or sell drugs.
WTF may remove Content or restrict Accounts where the Platform is being used to facilitate unlawful transactions or serious safety risks.
8. DANGEROUS CONDUCT
Users must not use Where’s the Function to encourage or coordinate conduct that creates a serious and reasonably foreseeable risk of physical harm.
This may include:
- credible threats of violence;
- instructions connected to an imminent violent act;
- deliberate crowd-safety interference;
- dangerous interference with Venue security;
- intentional tampering with safety equipment;
- deliberately encouraging severe intoxication in circumstances presenting serious danger; or
- other conduct creating a substantial safety risk.
This rule is not intended to prohibit ordinary nightlife discussion, humour, artistic expression or reporting merely because it refers to risky behaviour.
Context and seriousness matter.
9. VIOLENCE AND THREATS
Users must not make credible threats of violence against:
- another User;
- an artist;
- performer;
- Event Organiser;
- Venue employee;
- WTF employee;
- contractor; or
- other person.
Content glorifying or depicting violence may be assessed according to context.
Documentary, newsworthy, artistic or awareness-related Content will not automatically be treated the same as a credible threat.
Where WTF reasonably believes there is an imminent and serious risk to a person's safety, we may take appropriate steps permitted or required by law.
10. HARASSMENT AND BULLYING
Users must not use the Platform to seriously or repeatedly harass another person.
Prohibited conduct may include:
- repeated unwanted targeting;
- credible threats;
- sustained abusive communications;
- sexual harassment;
- malicious publication of private information;
- encouraging coordinated harassment;
- stalking-related misuse of Platform functionality; or
- targeted conduct reasonably likely to cause serious harm.
Ordinary disagreement, criticism, negative reviews or isolated rude comments will not automatically constitute prohibited harassment.
Context, severity and repetition will be considered.
11. DISCRIMINATION AND HATEFUL CONDUCT
Users must not use the Platform to attack, threaten, dehumanise or advocate unlawful discrimination against people based on protected characteristics under applicable law.
This may include characteristics such as:
- race;
- ethnicity;
- sex;
- gender;
- sexual orientation;
- religion;
- disability; or
- other legally protected characteristics.
This rule does not prohibit:
- discussion of discrimination;
- educational Content;
- reporting;
- counterspeech;
- satire; or
- good-faith discussion of social issues.
Event Organisers and Venues must also comply with applicable anti-discrimination laws in their Event and admission practices.
12. SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND NON-CONSENSUAL CONTENT
Nightlife Content may include adult fashion, dancing and consensual social interaction.
However, Users must not upload, distribute or use the Platform to facilitate:
- non-consensual intimate imagery;
- sexual exploitation;
- sexual coercion;
- voyeuristic sexual Content;
- threats to distribute intimate material;
- sexually explicit material involving minors;
- sexual harassment; or
- other unlawful sexual Content.
WTF may immediately remove or restrict serious non-consensual sexual Content.
Where required or appropriate under applicable law, relevant information may be preserved or reported to competent authorities.
13. PRIVACY AND PERSONAL INFORMATION
Users must respect the privacy of others.
You must not unlawfully publish or distribute another person's sensitive private information, including where applicable:
- home address;
- private telephone number;
- identification documents;
- financial details;
- passwords;
- authentication credentials;
- private medical information; or
- other information whose disclosure creates a serious privacy or safety risk.
This rule does not prohibit the lawful publication of information that is genuinely public or appropriately shared with permission.
WTF may remove personal information where necessary to protect a person's privacy or safety.
14. LOCATION INFORMATION AND STALKING
Where’s the Function may provide location-related Event or Venue functionality.
Users must not use location information or Platform functionality to:
- stalk another person;
- track another person without lawful authority;
- threaten another person;
- facilitate harassment;
- expose a person's private location maliciously; or
- create a serious safety risk.
Public Event or Venue location information is not the same as a User's private real-time location.
WTF will not intentionally expose precise User location to other Users unless an appropriate feature, legal basis and privacy safeguards have been implemented.
15. IMPERSONATION
Users must not impersonate another person or entity in a materially deceptive manner.
This includes impersonating:
- artists;
- DJs;
- promoters;
- Event Organisers;
- Venues;
- brands;
- WTF employees;
- public figures; or
- other Users
for purposes of fraud, deception or material misrepresentation.
Fan, parody or commentary Accounts may be permitted where they do not misleadingly represent themselves as the official person or organisation.
16. FALSE ARTIST, VENUE OR BRAND ASSOCIATION
An Event must not falsely claim that an artist, Venue, promoter, sponsor or brand:
- is appearing;
- is hosting;
- is sponsoring;
- has endorsed the Event;
- has authorised the Event; or
- is otherwise officially associated with the Event
when that claim is false or unauthorised.
WTF may request evidence of authority.
A credible complaint from an artist, authorised representative, Venue or rights holder may result in temporary restriction while the matter is investigated.
17. FAKE EVENTS
Creating or promoting a fraudulent Event is prohibited.
Examples include:
- selling Tickets for an Event that does not exist;
- creating an Event with no genuine intention or reasonable ability to hold it;
- using a fake Venue;
- falsely claiming artist participation;
- duplicating another Organiser's Event to divert sales;
- intentionally providing false dates or locations; or
- collecting Ticket money through a materially deceptive listing.
WTF may immediately hide or remove a suspected fraudulent Event listing, restrict associated Platform accounts, and notify or cooperate with the responsible external ticketing provider where appropriate. Only the relevant ticketing provider or other authorised party controls external Ticket sales and settlement.
18. TICKET FRAUD
Users must not:
- create counterfeit Tickets;
- duplicate Ticket credentials for fraudulent use;
- alter QR codes or Ticket identifiers;
- sell a Ticket known to be invalid;
- falsely claim to be an authorised Ticket seller;
- manipulate Ticket-transfer functionality;
- knowingly conduct fraudulent chargebacks; or
- use the Platform to facilitate Ticket scams.
WTF may restrict associated Platform Accounts and refer suspected fraudulent Tickets to the responsible ticketing provider or other authorised party. WTF does not issue or invalidate Tickets sold by independent providers.
19. TICKET RESALE
Where Ticket resale or transfer is permitted, Users must comply with:
- applicable law;
- Event-specific restrictions;
- Platform functionality; and
- applicable Ticket terms.
Users must not use resale activity to commit fraud, manipulate Ticket availability or misrepresent the validity of a Ticket.
Where official Ticket-transfer functionality exists, Users should use that functionality rather than distributing uncontrolled copies of Ticket credentials.
20. MISLEADING EVENT INFORMATION
Business Users must not intentionally mislead Consumers about material Event information.
This includes:
- false line-ups;
- false Venue claims;
- fake sponsors;
- misleading Ticket categories;
- fabricated scarcity;
- false capacity claims;
- fake discounts;
- misleading cancellation information;
- misleading refund information; or
- material omissions designed to influence a Ticket purchase.
Event Organisers must comply with the more detailed requirements in the Event Organiser & Venue Terms.
21. ARTIFICIAL ENGAGEMENT AND MANIPULATION
Users and Business Users must not manipulate Platform metrics through deceptive or unauthorised methods.
This may include:
- fake Accounts;
- automated fake engagement;
- fabricated reviews;
- fraudulent Ticket sales;
- artificial Event popularity;
- coordinated false reporting;
- manipulation of ranking systems; or
- other deceptive attempts to manufacture apparent popularity.
Legitimate advertising or paid Event promotion offered through WTF is not artificial engagement merely because it increases visibility.
22. SPAM
Users must not use the Platform to distribute excessive, deceptive or irrelevant commercial communications.
Prohibited spam may include:
- repeated unsolicited promotions;
- deceptive links;
- mass irrelevant messages;
- fraudulent promotions;
- repeated duplicate Content; or
- automated commercial activity that materially interferes with Platform use.
Lawful direct marketing must also comply with applicable privacy and marketing law.
23. SCAMS AND DECEPTIVE PRACTICES
Users must not use Where’s the Function to conduct or promote scams.
Examples may include:
- fake Ticket giveaways;
- fraudulent competitions;
- phishing;
- payment scams;
- fake refund requests;
- impersonation scams;
- false investment opportunities;
- advance-fee fraud;
- credential theft; or
- deceptive links intended to steal information.
WTF may restrict Accounts or Content associated with credible fraud risks.
24. MALWARE AND PLATFORM SECURITY
Users must not:
- distribute malware;
- introduce malicious code;
- attempt unauthorised system access;
- bypass security controls;
- probe the Platform for malicious purposes;
- steal authentication credentials;
- interfere with Platform availability;
- scrape the Platform in violation of applicable restrictions;
- manipulate APIs without authorisation; or
- use automated systems to materially disrupt Platform operations.
Good-faith security research should be reported through an authorised security-reporting process where available.
25. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Users must respect intellectual-property rights.
Content must not be uploaded where the User knows or reasonably should know that they lack the necessary rights or permission.
Protected material may include:
- photographs;
- artwork;
- videos;
- music;
- logos;
- trademarks;
- Event posters;
- artist images; and
- other copyrighted or protected material.
WTF may remove or restrict Content following a credible intellectual-property complaint.
Repeated or deliberate infringement may result in Account restrictions.
26. USER CONTENT AND OWNERSHIP
Users retain ownership of User Content to the extent they hold rights in that Content.
By submitting User Content, Users grant WTF the licence described in the Terms of Use for purposes reasonably necessary to operate and display the Platform.
Uploading Content featuring another person does not automatically give WTF or the uploader unrestricted rights to use that person's:
- image;
- likeness;
- performance;
- name; or
- identity
for unrelated advertising or endorsement purposes.
Separate rights or permissions may be required.
27. EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOS
Nightlife Events frequently involve photography and video recording.
Event Organisers should appropriately communicate material Event photography or recording practices where required.
The fact that a person attends an Event does not automatically grant every attendee, Organiser or commercial entity unrestricted rights to use that person's image for every commercial purpose.
Where Content is uploaded to the Platform, the uploader remains responsible for having the rights or lawful basis necessary for that upload.
28. REVIEWS AND CRITICISM
Where review, rating or comment functionality is available, Users may express genuine opinions about Events and Venues.
A negative review does not violate these Guidelines merely because the Organiser disagrees with it.
Users must not, however:
- knowingly fabricate material factual allegations;
- submit fake reviews;
- accept undisclosed compensation for deceptive reviews;
- coordinate false ratings;
- impersonate genuine attendees; or
- use reviews to threaten or extort a Business User.
Business Users must not attempt to suppress legitimate criticism through false reports.
29. ADVERTISING AND SPONSORED CONTENT
Advertising and promoted Content must comply with these Guidelines.
Advertisers must not submit Content that:
- is materially deceptive;
- promotes unlawful products or services;
- infringes third-party rights;
- falsely implies endorsement;
- targets Users unlawfully; or
- violates applicable advertising requirements.
Sponsored or promoted Content may be identified as such where appropriate.
Payment for advertising does not exempt Content from moderation.
30. SENSITIVE NIGHTLIFE INFORMATION
Users' Event interests, attendance, searches or Content may sometimes reveal or permit inferences about sensitive characteristics.
Users and Business Users must not misuse Platform information to unlawfully:
- discriminate;
- harass;
- expose another person's private characteristics;
- create unauthorised sensitive profiles; or
- target another person based on unlawfully inferred sensitive information.
Attendance at or interest in an Event does not necessarily establish a person's:
- religion;
- sexual orientation;
- health status;
- political views; or
- other sensitive characteristic.
WTF's own processing of such information is governed by the Privacy Notice & POPIA Policy.
31. ACCESSIBILITY
Business Users must not knowingly provide materially false accessibility information.
Where an Event or Venue advertises accessibility features, the information should accurately reflect the facilities reasonably expected to be available.
Accessibility requests or information concerning a person's disability or health must not be used for unrelated marketing or discriminatory purposes.
32. REPORTING CONTENT OR CONDUCT
Users may report suspected violations using the reporting options described below.
Where a reporting feature is available, Users may submit reports through that feature. Otherwise, reports may be sent by email.
Reporting Email: tech@wheresthefunction.co.za
Website: wheresthefunction.co.za
A report should include enough information for WTF to identify and assess the issue.
Where appropriate, this may include:
- Event name;
- Account name;
- Content;
- Ticket reference;
- description of the concern;
- supporting evidence; and
- relevant dates.
Users should not submit knowingly false reports.
33. EMERGENCIES
Where there is an immediate threat to life or physical safety, Users should contact the appropriate emergency service or law-enforcement authority rather than relying solely on an in-app report.
Where WTF becomes aware of a credible and imminent serious safety risk, we may take reasonable action permitted or required by law.
The Platform is not an emergency-response service.
34. HOW WE REVIEW REPORTS
WTF may assess reports using:
- information supplied by the reporter;
- relevant Content;
- Account information;
- Event records;
- listing history;
- transaction information lawfully available to WTF (where relevant);
- previous enforcement history;
- information supplied by the reported User or Business User;
- technical information where appropriate; and
- other relevant evidence.
For end-to-end encrypted direct messages, WTF cannot routinely read message contents. Where messaging and reporting features are available, a reporter may voluntarily attach relevant messages or evidence to a report for review. WTF will assess only information lawfully accessible to it.
Submitting a report does not guarantee a particular enforcement outcome.
We may decline to act where:
- there is insufficient evidence;
- the reported conduct does not violate these Guidelines;
- the dispute is primarily a private disagreement outside WTF's reasonable role; or
- action would otherwise be inappropriate or unlawful.
35. PRESERVATION OF EVIDENCE
Where reasonably necessary for:
- fraud investigations;
- consumer disputes;
- chargebacks;
- intellectual-property complaints;
- serious safety incidents;
- legal claims;
- regulatory matters; or
- enforcement,
WTF may preserve relevant records in accordance with applicable law and the Privacy Notice.
Removal of Content from public view does not necessarily require immediate deletion of every associated record where lawful retention is necessary.
36. ENFORCEMENT OPTIONS
Where WTF reasonably determines that these Guidelines have been violated, we may take proportionate action including:
- warning the User;
- requesting correction;
- reducing or removing Content;
- restricting Content visibility;
- suspending Event publication;
- removing links to suspected fraudulent external Ticket offers;
- temporarily restricting an Account;
- requiring additional verification;
- restricting Business functionality;
- notifying the responsible ticketing provider of suspected fraud or other serious concerns;
- referring suspected fraudulent Tickets to the responsible provider;
- suspending an Account; or
- terminating an Account.
The appropriate action will depend on the circumstances.
37. PROPORTIONAL ENFORCEMENT
Not every violation requires permanent Account termination.
When determining enforcement, WTF may consider:
- severity;
- intent;
- actual or potential harm;
- repetition;
- previous warnings;
- fraud risk;
- safety risk;
- legal obligations;
- willingness to correct the issue; and
- whether immediate action is required.
Serious conduct may justify immediate restriction without a prior warning.
This may include:
- credible fraud;
- serious threats;
- severe harassment;
- serious privacy violations;
- fake Events;
- significant Ticket fraud;
- material security abuse; or
- other conduct presenting substantial risk.
38. TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS DURING INVESTIGATION
WTF may impose a temporary restriction while investigating a credible concern.
This may include temporarily:
- hiding Content;
- suspending an Event;
- temporarily removing Ticket links from a listing;
- restricting Account access; or
- contacting the responsible external ticketing provider where appropriate.
A temporary restriction does not necessarily mean WTF has reached a final conclusion.
Temporary measures may be appropriate where allowing activity to continue would create unreasonable consumer, financial, safety, security or legal risk.
39. BUSINESS USER ENFORCEMENT
Where an Event Organiser, Venue or Business User violates these Guidelines, WTF may also exercise rights available under the Event Organiser & Venue Terms.
These may include:
- Event takedown;
- removal of external Ticket links;
- referral of payment concerns to the responsible ticketing provider;
- restrictions on Platform promotions;
- additional verification;
- referral of refund enquiries to the responsible seller or provider;
- Business Account suspension; or
- termination.
Consumer funds will not be withheld from consumers merely as punishment against a Business User.
40. APPEALS
Where WTF takes a significant enforcement action, the affected User or Business User may request review where an appeal process is made available.
An appeal should explain:
- the decision being challenged;
- why the User believes the decision was incorrect;
- relevant context; and
- supporting evidence.
WTF may uphold, modify or reverse the decision.
Repeated submission of identical appeals without new information may be restricted.
Appeals may be submitted to tech@wheresthefunction.co.za, with the relevant Account or Event details and a description of the decision being challenged. Any additional in-app appeal process will be explained when available.
41. FALSE AND ABUSIVE REPORTING
Users must not intentionally misuse reporting systems to:
- harass another person;
- suppress legitimate criticism;
- interfere with a competitor;
- remove a legitimate Event;
- retaliate against another User; or
- knowingly submit fabricated allegations.
Good-faith reports will not violate this rule merely because WTF ultimately determines that no violation occurred.
42. COOPERATION WITH AUTHORITIES
WTF may preserve or disclose information to competent authorities where:
- legally required;
- authorised by applicable law;
- necessary to comply with valid legal process; or
- otherwise permitted in circumstances involving serious threats or unlawful conduct.
Requests for personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable law and our Privacy Notice.
WTF will not voluntarily disclose personal information merely because a person claiming to be an authority requests it without appropriate legal basis.
43. NO GUARANTEE OF USER OR EVENT CONDUCT
WTF establishes these Guidelines and may moderate Platform activity, but we cannot guarantee that every User, Organiser, Venue or attendee will comply with them.
Platform moderation does not transfer responsibility for an Event's physical operation to WTF.
Users should exercise appropriate judgment when:
- attending Events;
- interacting with others;
- purchasing Tickets; and
- sharing personal information.
Nothing in this section limits responsibility that WTF cannot lawfully exclude.
44. RELATIONSHIP WITH EVENT ORGANISER RULES
An Event Organiser or Venue may impose lawful Event-specific rules in addition to these Guidelines.
Examples may include:
- dress codes;
- bag restrictions;
- photography restrictions;
- age restrictions;
- access requirements;
- re-entry rules; or
- prohibited items.
Event-specific rules must not override applicable law or mandatory consumer rights.
Where a rule is material to a Ticket purchase, it should be appropriately disclosed.
45. CHANGES TO THESE GUIDELINES
We may update these Guidelines to reflect:
- new Platform functionality;
- emerging abuse patterns;
- safety requirements;
- legal developments;
- regulatory guidance; or
- operational experience.
The updated Guidelines will display a revised Last Updated date.
Material changes will be communicated where appropriate.
46. RELATED DOCUMENTS
